Early Life & Background Stan Marks Shanbron was born in Brooklyn, New York, and grew up with an adventurous spirit, a competitive nature, and an early love of storytelling. Named after his mother’s brother, Stanley Marks—a World War II Naval Officer who sacrificed his life to save the crew of his ship—Stan’s own life became a remarkable journey shaped by resilience, loss, leadership, sports, business, and an enduring passion for writing.

After spending his early childhood in Brooklyn, his family moved to Flushing, Long Island, and later to South Florida. Sports quickly became a central focus. He played Little League baseball, collected cards, devoured sports books, and eventually discovered tennis—a sport that would take him to remarkable heights. 

Academic & Athletic Achievements By eighth grade, Stan was ranked fifth among junior tennis players in the state of Florida. He continued to excel throughout high school, serving as Student Council President and graduating second in his class. In 1966, ranked third among junior tennis players in Florida, he was offered a full tennis scholarship to Clemson University.

Life, however, took a different turn. Stan attended the University of Miami on a tennis scholarship, majoring in Drama and competing nationally. He later transferred to Columbus College, where he:

• Captained the tennis team to two top five NAIA national finishes

• Was twice named a First-Team All-American

• Was inducted into the school’s Athletic Hall of Fame

• Graduated with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature

Life Lessons & Resilience Stan’s life has been profoundly shaped by moments of profound loss and quiet courage. In 1966, his young wife, Sharon, was tragically killed in an automobile accident. Being present at the scene and unable to save her left a lasting mark, deepening his understanding of grief, resilience, and the complexities of the human spirit.

Later in life, Stan married author, motivational speaker, and television personality Jill Liberman in 1999. Together, they raised Jill’s son, Adam, and remained happily married until Jill’s passing in 2022 following her battle with breast cancer.

Career & Literary Works After college, Stan entered his father’s apparel business and went on to pursue numerous entrepreneurial ventures. Throughout his professional career, writing remained his first love. His body of work spans literary fiction, suspense, political thrillers, short stories, and children’s literature.
